Happy Monday! In all seriousness, lets hope the bird doesn’t get the turtle! Today I set my alarm for 6am and after hitting snooze twice decided to get up and watch a sea turtle nest excavation by the awesome volunteers of the Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch group. For the last week Keith and I have been predicting (well I’m predicting and he’s driving me) which turtle nest we think will hatch next. So far we haven’t seen one hatch, but several have hatched right after we left. Moral of the story – be patient! We have managed to show up in time to see hundreds of baby turtle tracks and empty shells and I am meeting some really nice local turtle lovers too!
This morning when the nest was excavated they found four adorable baby loggerheads! When the first turtle was pulled out of the nest all the kids cheered! Linda (who excavated the nest) was so great and she took time to make sure every kid got a close up look at the turtles. Educating children about ocean conservation is a huge step in the right direction for our future. So drag your kids out of bed (or check out one of the PM excavations) and let them witness something they aren’t likely to forget!
- Be patient! The verse that has been on my heart for the last few weeks is “Be still and know that I am God..” Psalm 46:10. It is so hard for me to “Be still” but it is something I am focusing on this month!
- Summer is almost over! At least for all the school kids. The best thing about living in Florida is that the beaches will be warm all through September and they’re so much less crowded once school starts back!
- Drink water and wear sunscreen! It’s hot out there y’all! You already know that, but did you know that they still make colored zinc like when we were kids!! The brand is Zinka and you can buy it on Amazon or from Island Vibe surf shop. It’s so much fun to let kids paint themselves up with it!
