Maine Vacation – Addison, Maine

Addison, Maine! One of my favorite places on the planet! Maine was actually never even on my list of places to visit, but in 2012 Keith’s family decided to make the trip up to visit Keith’s great-grandmother. I should have known that I would love any place on the water! We had the most amazing time with Gigi and at 97 years old she fried us homemade doughnuts in pure lard and kept us in stitches with the stories she told us. The weather was so perfect and completely different that the humidity and heat of Florida. We loved watching the fog roll in at night. Gigi would say, “I don’t know who name Maine vacationland, they should have named it FOGland!”

Gigi is now 102.8 (she’ll be 103 in February!!) She still lives alone and her memory is incredible. We visited Maine 3 times this year and this last trip was my favorite! We surprised Keith’s mom and grandpa and showed up while they were visiting in April and then came back with Keith’s grandpa in October. This last trip was for Keith’s mom’s birthday and it snowed while we were there! It was like being in Narnia. Keith and I didn’t have a Christmas card yet so I made him get dressed that morning while everything was glistening and his mom graciously froze her fingers off while we tried to get an amazing photo. We got so many good ones! The highlight though was when I found this beautiful spot on the side of the road and apparently stepped in a ditch full of snow, fell over into it and cracked the frozen ditch water open with my body – and Keith’s mom managed to snap a few photos through her laughter!

We had so much fun in our winter wonderland and can’t wait to go back!
